No stranger to St. Joseph Island, we are thrilled to welcome our old friend and fellow islander Valdy back this summer!
A fixture of the Canadian music scene for nearly 50 years, Valdy’s music is woven into the cultural fabric of this country making him truly one of Canada’s most beloved performers. Canada officially recognized Valdy’s contribution to Canadian music and culture by inducting him into the Order of Canada in 2011.
With 18 albums released since 1972, Valdy has received fourteen Juno nominations, winning two for Outstanding Folk Performance and Folk Singer of the Year. His albums have sold nearly half a million copies, four of which are certified gold.
Based on BC’s Salt Spring Island, Valdy has long stood up for environmental and social causes, evident in several of his songs. He is however best known for his 1972 single “Rock and Roll Song”, his tale of being a folk singer at a rock & roll show.
Valdy’s timeless songs about freedom, love and the human experience continue to delight audiences of all ages and at all corners of this country, as he continues to tour into his 70s.
Please join us in welcoming our friend back to St. Joseph Island on July 24.
