Our History
Since 1995, the Old Town Hall Concert Series has brought some of Canada’s top musical talent to St. Joseph Island for a series of Summer performances.
Held in the village of Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island, Ontario, the concert series was initially held in the community’s small 1912 Town Hall, which was converted into a violin workshop and performing hall by Raymond Schryer. The series rapidly gained in popularity, however, and has since moved to the new town hall, part of which was an 1896 schoolhouse.
The venue for our Series, the Hilton Beach Community Hall, allows us to provide our audiences with extraordinarily up-close and intimate performances, unlike any other in the area. The musicians often interact with the audience who get drawn in and become fully immersed in the music.
The Old Town Hall Concert Series has become known over the years as a venue for the very best of Canadian musical artists. The cream of the crop from the Canadian jazz, classical and popular music scenes have entertained thousands of thrilled concertgoers since 1995. Past performers at the Old Town Hall Concert Series have toured the world, played at the most prestigious concert halls, won Juno awards, and have continued to develop the distinguished image of Canadian musicians internationally. We wish for you to join us this season as our concerts continue to fill the hall to capacity and our performances keep getting bigger and better.
